Diamond is a crystal of pure carbon with a hardness of 10 – the hardest of all substances and is the most popular gemstone of all time. They are commonly thought of as colourless stones, exhibiting brilliant inner fire when faceted into gems. However, Diamonds are found in many colours brown, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, red, gray and black variations are also found depending on the impurities present.

Despite its extreme hardness Diamond is brittle and at 4,289 degree C a diamond will completely burn up leaving nothing behind but carbon dioxide gas. This is how it is possible to drill holes in diamonds using laser beams and why diamonds have numerous industrial uses.
Roughly 49% of diamonds originate from central and southern Africa, although significant sources of the mineral have been discovered in India, Russia, Brazil, United States (Arkansas, California, Colorado, and North Carolina), Australia and Canada.

Diamonds have long been valued for their magical properties. Some cultures believe that the stones provide their owners with protection from evil spirits, fire, poison, snakes, illness and various dangers. Other cultures believe they provide victory, courage, faithfulness, purity and the enhancement of love.

Putting a Diamond near the brain, particularly at the forehead, is thought to enhance one’s inner vision and intuitive connection with the higher domains of spirit.

The hardness, brilliance, sparkle, rarity and metaphysical properties of diamonds make them unsurpassed as gems.
