amber

Amber is an organic material made up of fossilized natural botanic resins of now-extinct conifer trees and ancient pine trees. The resin must be several million years old to be called amber. Recently hardened resins are called copals.

While amber is not technically a mineral, it has long been honoured for its energetic and healing properties and is thought to transform negativity into a source of clear energy.

The most valued source of the world’s amber is the Baltic coast of Germany. Amber is also found off the coasts of Sicily and England and in Burma. In the Western Hemisphere, there are rich deposits in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and the state of New Jersey. Because of amber’s preservative qualities, the DNA of the specimens trapped inside is intact, affording scientists a unique opportunity to study the DNA of extinct species.

Amber can vary in color from yellow to red, from green to blue, but amber’s color is usually honey brown. The best commercial amber is transparent, but some varieties are cloudy. Sometimes insects or pieces of earth, leaves, pine needles and inclusions of small plant and animal fossils are present in the amber. Its lustre is greasy to resinous.

Associated with time, cycles and longevity, amber is also regarded as being highly sensual and magnetic and is thought to insure very long enjoyment of the qualities that make the wearer attractive. Amber has long been associated with healing energy and mental stimulation, and is said to balance aggressive traits.

Amber is recommended to be worn or carried by anyone recovering from illness or injury because its warm and nurturing energies put us in tough with our own essential strength and security. Due to its light carrying properties, Amber can help those who become depressed during winter light deprivation. It assists in stimulating metabolism, physical energy and the flow of energy along the meridians of the body. It can help draw out infection and cleanse contaminates from the organs. Amber is excellent for eyes, for glandular swellings of the throat and lungs and in balancing endocrine and digestive network.

Many people believe that amber can also spur one’s innate capacity to manifest prosperity.
